"..I'm finally living my dream"

"My path to Niagara College has been a bit different than most. At 28-years-old with a loving husband of 6 years and two handsome sons, I am finally living out my dream of becoming a hairdresser. I always wanted to be one but, I never ended up doing it until now. Previously in my life I was a medical transcriptionist, which was incredibly boring and didn’t allow me to express my true self. I am a very social person, working behind a desk just wasn’t for me. Following that, I took four years off to be with my kids as they were growing up. When my kids started going to school, it was a perfect time for me start a new chapter of my life. That chapter being the Niagara College Hairstylist Apprenticeship Program. This program fits perfectly with my life right now. The cool thing about it is that we only have classes on Tuesdays. The rest of the days we our out practicing at an actual salon, with actual clients. This is so exciting for me, because I am able to do what I love, learn from professionals and still be able to obtain my family routine. I typically wake up at 6 a.m. every morning, get my kids ready for school, one catches the bus at 8 a.m., I drop the other one off at day-care for 8:45 a.m. and then make my way to class or the salon for 9:30 a.m. I typically have 10 minutes to spare, it’s a busy morning but so worth it! I love my program, my professor is AMAZING, I am able to make money while going to school and accomplish something I’ve always wanted to do.”
